The Problem
We all want to do our part to help the environment. But despite rising energy prices, the climate change challenge, and the security of energy supply and economic growth, making the switch to new lighting technologies is happening too slowly.

The Brief
To create a concept for an interactive piece that will raise awareness on energy saving light bulbs and their benefits to both the consumer and the environment.

Results
“In the land of the North, where the ice is thick and the sun rarely visits, there lay a town where night always rules. It is called Glo. Lights are needed to save the town and the people in it, so the people, with their last ounce of energy, pray to the sky and ask for help.”

Glo is an awareness game that strives to educate the public on the benefits of changing to energy saving light bulbs. A game is used because of its ability to make education fun and alleviate the burdens of learning about energy conservation, causing them to be more willing to accept the message contained within the game itself.

There are two game modes in Glo: Treasure Hunting, and Upgrade Mode. Treasure Hunting implements the use of the iPhone accelerometer and GPS to count how far and how many steps a user has gone before revealing a hidden treasure. The treasure contains items such as gold, energy, or light bulbs that the user can use to feed their village. Once their village is fed they receive energy to then remodel and upgrade their homes, which they can do in the second mode, Upgrade.
